Research

The research projects of the Department of Political Science at the University of Wuppertal are currently focussing on the following areas

  • social participation and citizen involvement (especially at the IDPF, see below),
  • sustainability and transformation (especially at tranzent, see below),
  • international relations,
  • public policy and governance as well as
  • organised interests, functional self-administration and the mediation of social interests.

The research projects of Wuppertal Political Science are located either directly at the teaching and research areas of the Institute of Political Science or at the research institutions with specific focal points, namely the Institute for Democracy and Participation Research (IDPF) or the Centre for Transformation Research and Sustainability (transzent).

"bergisch.kompetenz", funded by the European Regional Development Fund via the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MWIKE).

"BE:ST – Citizen Energy: Structural Strengthening & Participation" (BE:ST – Bürger-Energie: Strukturstärkung und Teilhabe), funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK).

Co-productive real estate development as democratic capacity building, funded by the Robert Bosch Foundation.

"Citizens' Councils Database" (Datenbank Bürgerräte), together with "Mehr Demokratie".

"Fit4Klima: Development of efficient climate-friendly lifestyles in the context of modern health promotion and CO2-saving progress" (Fit4Klima: Entwicklung effizienter klimafreundlicher Lebensstile im Kontext moderner Gesundheitsförderung und CO2-Sparfortschritt), funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK).

"German skilled craft trades associations in transition" (Innungen, Tarifbindung und Mitbestimmung im Wandel (InnWa) - Organisationsveränderungen und Handlungsoptionen), funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation.

"Artificial Intelligence and Citizens' Councils" (Künstliche Intelligenz und Bürgerräte (KIB)), together with the Interdisciplinary Centre for Machine Learning and Data Analysis (IZDM, University of Wuppertal), funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

"Narrative Futures: Development of an inter- and transdisciplinary approach for the construction of futures and the shaping of transformation through narratives" (Narrative Futures: Entwicklung eines inter- und transdisziplinären Ansatzes für die Konstruktion von Zukünften und die Gestaltung von Transformation durch Narrative), funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.

"Social partnership-based energy transition – Acceptance, knowledge production and reorganisation in the self-administration of the craft trades" (Sozialpartnerschaftliche Energiewende - Akzeptanz, Wissensproduktion und Reorganisation in der handwerklichen Selbstverwaltung (SoPaEn)), together with Bundesarbeitskreis Arbeit und Leben, Institut für Betriebsführung im Handwerk (itb) and Forschungsstelle Kammerrecht (FoKa), funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).
